Acting Traditional Authority Njolomole of Ntcheu district has decreed that female students from Malawi Adventist University, Lakeview Campus should stop wearing trousers and miniskirts forthwith.

According to the T/A this kind of dressing is “embarrassing” to Njolomole village in which the school is located hence ordering that no female student should be found wearing them around the village.

“Our village is well know of upholding cultural norms, hence the decision,” said T/A Njolomole.

Meanwhile, Dean of Students at Malawi University Adventist, Lakeview Campus Pearson Zungu, has is advising all the students to adhere to the T/A’s decree.

However, women rights activist Beatrice Mateyo has faulted T/A Njolomole over his decision.

According to Mateyo, the decision is unconstitutional and litigable in the courts.
