The Ministry of Education has urged the general public to report to the Ministry any learning institution claiming that government has ordered that schools should close due to COVID-19.

In a statement the Ministry says it has noted with concern that some schools have chosen to bring confusion by sending back learners claiming that Government has announced closure of schools due to the surge in COVID- 19 cases.

The Ministry says it has not released any information regarding closure of schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking to the state controlled Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) the spokesperson for the Ministry Chikondi Chimala said as advised by the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 schools will still remain open.

Earlier this week, the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 enforced new measures aiming at stopping further spread of the COVID-19.

One of such measures is to do with reducing numbers in public gathering such as church, weddings and funerals.

The Presidential Task Force also banned all overnight prayers with effect from day.
