President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera will tomorrow commission the Shire North Railway Bridge at Nkaya in Balaka.
Secretary to the President and Cabinet Zanga-Zanga Chikhosi said in a statement on Monday that Dr Chakwera is expected to arrive at Nkaya at 10 in the morning.
The bridge has been constructed by the Central East African Railways (Cear) to the tune of K9billion.
It is 165-metre long and has capacity to carry over 21 metric tonnes (MT) per axel compared to the previous bridge that handled below 15MT per axel.
Cear is in a 30- year concession agreement with the Government to manage the railway and the stations as they ferry cargo.
