A 38 year-old man from Waiyatsa village, Traditional Authority Njolomole in Malawi’s central district of Ntcheu has committed suicide after some continued ‘verbal war’ with his wife.

The deceased, Felton Kasamba hanged himself Tuesday night in his bedroom in Chirimba Township in the city of Blantyre.

According to a recorded statement from the deceased’s wife, Martha Kasamba, 31, the two had been quarrelling until the day the husband committed suicide.

“During the night of April 02, 2013, she had quarrels with her husband. Following that, she was chased out of the house by her husband and went to her neighbours and asked them if they could mediate the talks with her husband.

“Around 21:00hours of the same night, the neighbours escorted her but they were shocked to see Felton Kasamba hanging in his bedroom,” reads the statement in part.

Post-mortem, conducted at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre showed that Kasamba died due to asphyxia or lack of oxygen in the blood following the suicide.

In a related development, Beston Tsambalikagwa, 78, from Likhula village, Traditional Authority Chitera in Chiradzulu in southern Malawi was on Easter Monday found dead in his house after committing suicide.

Tsambalikagwa, who has been sick since 2012, is said to have hanged himself to death while his wife had gone to a nearby garden.
