The Incumbent Minister of Energy, Newton Kambala, along with businessman Enoch Chihana and presidential adviser Chris Chaima Banda, is to spend the night in police custody at Lilongwe Police Station as the Anti Corruption Bureau ACB continues probing.

ACB spokesperson, Egritta Ndala, says in a statement that the ACB established that Kambala attempted to influence the National Oil Company of Malawi to award contracts to supply 40, 000 metric tons of fuel in 2020/2021.

These were contracts for the advantage of Orxy, Finergy and Trifugira Fuel companies.

“Mr. Enock Chihana, President of Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) and Mr. Chris Chaima

Banda, Presidential Adviser on Strategy aided and abetted Hon. Newton Kambala when he attempted to influence the award of the contract…,” says Ndala.
