Zambia’s former president Edgar Chagwa Lungu has wished his successor Hakainde Hichilema all the best as he has been sworn in today as the 7th republican president of the country.

Writing on his official Facebook page, Lungu said all he can do is to wish Hichilema well as he is taking Zambia into the next chapter.

“Today (Tuesday, August 24) I hand over the baton of the country’s leadership to now President Hakainde Hichilema. I can only wish him well as he takes our country into the next chapter, because his success is the success of all of us as a nation,” said Lungu.

He further asked the people of Zambia to support Hichilema and to pray to God for his guidance and give him strength on what he said challenging journey.

He then thanked the people of Zambia whilst admitting that it was an honor to serve them.

Yesterday, Lungu gave Hichilema the instrument of power at a colorful inauguration ceremony which was graced by thousands of Zambians, Africa’s head of states and officials not forgetting opposition leaders from different African countries.
