Former Vice President Khumbo Hastings Kachali who is also President of Freedom Party (FP) has criticized President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and his Tonse Alliance for failing to fulfill some of the campaign promises.
Kachali said this during a rally held in Mzimba district recently and the video of the rally has since gone viral on social media.
In his speech Kachali accused the Tonse Alliance of cheating Malawians on cheap fertilizer which is currently hovering at around MK40,000 per 50kg bag.
“Tonse alliance promised that price of fertilizer will be at K 5000 per 50 Kilogram bag, How much is the price now?” Kachali asked hundreds of people at the rally who replied in a choir “MK40, 000 per bag”.
He added: “Just yesterday, l was talking to some people that government intend to raise fuel price, but they did not believe me, hours later Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (Mera) announced new fuel pump prices.”
Kachali said the hike will also affect the prices of essential goods on the market.
He then urged people from Mzimba district not to be cheated by party regalia’s or handouts from certain political parties, saying they should open their eyes.
Kachali’s party is among the nine political parties forming the Tonse Alliance.
