Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Shadow Member of Parliament for Blantyre Kabula Alex Chimwala on Monday held an audience with the party’s constituency committees from the district.

Chimwala’s meeting with the constieuncy commitees held at the Party’s district headquarters was aimed at finding ways on how the party can be strengthened in the Southern region which is regarded as the bedroom of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Speaking to the press after the meeting Chimwala said: “Most of the issues discussed during the meeting were internal matters but the main agenda of the meeting was to encourage the constituency committees to engage an extra gear when it comes to strengthening the party in the southern region especially on grassroots level.

“During the meeting I also emphasized on the need for the supporters to started benefiting from the party which is currently on the driving seat. The supporters fault hard to see DPP out of power and it’s time for them to start enjoying the fruits of their hard earned victory.”

Turning to how the party is fairing in the south, Chimwala admitted that there is a lot to be done on the ground to change the mindset of Malawians.

“Many people view MCP as a party from Central region but I have been on the ground convincing them that MCP is a national party and not a family party. The first leader of the party was Orton Chirwa followed by Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda who handed over the leadership to Gwanda Chakwamba. This clearly shows that MCP is a national party,” said Chimwala.

He then urged all Malawians across the country to support President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera who is trying his best to rebuild the country.

Chimwala is set to contest as Member of Parliament for Blantyre Kabula in 2025.
