Police in Lilongwe have arrested a Mozambican national and a Malawian citizen for being found in possession of a live pangolin.

The duo, Antony Edward, a Mozambican, and Mike Gama, was arrested on October 14, 2021 in Area 24.

Detectives from Lilongwe Police Station and National Police Headquarters were tipped that the duo was possessing an endangered animal at ZBS Bar.

The law enforcers rushed to the place and found the suspects selling a live pangolin at a price of K8 million.

The detectives immediately handcuffed the duo and seized the scaled animal.

They will appear in court soon to answer a charge of illegal possession of listed species, contrary to Section 86 of the National Parks and Wildlife Act.

The arrest comes barely a week after Lilongwe Police Station netted three other men for allegedly possessing two live pangolins which they were also offering for sale at Nsundwe Trading Centre.
