Police in Chikwawa have arrested two men for allegedly being found in possession of Indian hemp locally known as chamba without approved documents.
Chikwawa Police Station publicist Dickson Matemba has identified the two as Prince Phiri, 28, of Mpalasa Village, Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba and Samuel Thom 20 of Mpulula Village, Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka.
Matemba said earlier this month, Police in Chikwawa were patrolling along Thabwa-Fatima road and on the way, they intercepted two motorcycles which carried cartons.
It is said having noticed of the police presence, the bikers fled.
After searching the cartons, police found 29 black plastic papers containing Indian hemp.
The two motorcycles and the illicit drug were taken to Chikwawa Police Station and the two handed themselves over to Police on October 20, 2021.
Meanwhile, the hemp has been taken to Bvumbwe Research Station for examination and the suspects will appear in court to answer charge of being found in possession of Indian Hemp after the examination.
