Group Village Head Chiphadzi from Paramount Chief Kawinga in Machinga district said that cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) against women and girls have reduced in his area.

GHV Chiphadzi said that he used to receive many cases of violence against women and girls.

“Many women used to reports different cases of about 10 to 12 on financial and sexual issues cases in a week,” said Chiphadzi

Chief Chiphadzi said that the coming in of Spotlight male Engagement project funded by European Union and implemented by Creative Center for Community Mobilization (CRECCOM) have helped chiefs to know and understand how to resolve violence cases against women and girl.

CRECCOM’s Project officer for Spotlight Male Engagement Project, Dan Tewesa, said that the project aims at putting community leaders into groups to be discussing ways of eliminating violence against women and girls.

“We are working with religious leaders, traditional leaders, bicycle operators, initiation leaders, and youths through barbershop toolkit approach to end violence against women and girls in Machinga district,” said Tewesa.
