Divisions have emerged among Muslims in the country as a certain group dubbed Zisintha Islamic Welfare Organization (ZIWO) has attacked its mother body Muslim Association of Malawi (Mam) leadership for what they call ‘lack of direction and transparency’.

The grouping has since demanded for the resignation of the top leadership.

Speaking during a media briefing in Blantyre on Monday ZIWO Secretary General, Muhammed Kgweli, Publicity Secretary, Stuart Mustafa, and other top leaders such Akiba Kanjedza told a media briefing in Blantyre today that sheikhs are living below the minimum wage with most of them receiving K35, 000 a month.

The grouping also accused MAM leadership of promoting divisions, lacks vision for the country to have Islamic hospitals and schools and that MAM is exploiting people.

MAM Spokesperson, Sheikh Dinala Chabulika, dismissed the existence of the grouping, describing it as misguided.

Chabulika further asked the group follow proper channels.
