Social commentators have commended president Lazarus Chakwera for heeding public calls to reduce travel in the present socio-economic environment.

The commentators, Sherrif Kaisi and head of rights body, Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation, Michael Kaiyatsa, say the action demonstrates that Chakwera is getting back in touch with reality.

This follows a statement released a while ago by state house to the effect that President Chakwera has suspended all his public engagements with immediate effect.

Chakwera was scheduled to attend the World Aids Day commemoration at Bumba in Rumphi tomorrow and his convoy is in Mzuzu.

The move comes at a time when different quarters including rights groups rebuked his continued appetite for travels.
