Homeland security minister Richard Chimwendo Banda has refuted assertions on social media that government has reduced the passport fees to K14, 000 following the termination of a deal.

Chimwendo made the remarks during a media briefing in Lilongwe on the issue regarding passports contract with Technobrain which was terminated yesterday.

He said government has not arrived at that decision yet as another contractor is yet to be identified.

Chimwendo added that, the termination of a contract with Tecnobrain gives Malawi an opportunity to relook at the fees Malawians were paying to get a passport.

According to Chimwendo, the new fees will be determined from the charges of the new contractor.
