The Blantyre District Health and Social Services office has described the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination campaign as a success.

District Environmental Health Officer, Penjani Chunda, has told the press that current trends are indicating that the number of people being vaccinated is improving daily.

He said unlike in the past when they used to vaccinate less than two hundred people on daily basis, the express vaccination initiative is reaching out to about one thousand eight hundred people within the same period.

“Some of the strategies that are under the Covid-19 express vaccination campaign include door to door vaccination and we are also giving vaccinators daily targets,” said Chunda.

Speaking at Blantyre market one of the people who accessed the vaccine through the campaign Lameck James urged all unvaccinated people to get the jab.

Currently, Blantyre district has vaccinated about 13 percent of its population which currently stands at around 1.4 million. The campaign is being funded by UNICEF.
