Spokesperson for the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Maurice Munthali has dismissed accusations made by the former President Peter Mutharika in which faulted government’s economic policies.

The former head of state was speaking on Sunday, in Blantyre at Njamba Freedom Park where he conducted his first political party since he was ousted from power on June 23, 2020.

According to Mutharika, the country is currently on autopilot as President Lazarus Chakwera and his administration are failing to turn around the economy, citing nepotism as one of the reasons.

In his remarks Munthali, said that the claims by the former president are mere rhetoric aimed at distracting the current Government.

Munthali said the Tonse Administration is focused on improving the economy which was brought down to its knees following the free-for-all plunder by the former governments in the past 26 years, including the six years of APM leadership.
