A 24- year old man identified as Collins Ngwira, an electrician for Salima Sugar Company, was found dead after drowning in the factory cooling drain.

According to Salima Police Publicist, Jacob Khembo, the deceased was on December 17 working on a night shift and it started raining While he was still on duty which forced him to go and cover the factory electric motors and he disappeared during the daylight which made his colleagues to believe that he had gone somewhere.

On the morning of 18 December, 2021, he was still not seen and his workmates inquired about his whereabouts from the deceased’s wife who also told them that he did not return home and the news prompted them to report the issue to the company’s management who started searching for him.

In the course of checking, they found him dead and floating in the factory’s cooling drain.

Matter was reported to police officers who are providing security at the factory premises who visited the scene and took the dead body to Salima District Hospital for postmortem and his dead body is lying in the district mortuary waiting for results.

Collins Ngwira hailed from Nanthoka Village in Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre District.
