The Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has spoken against government’s proposal to introduce mandatory COVID-19 vaccination to ensure increased uptake.

In a statement, the Commission’s Chairperson, Scader Louis has described the move as a violation of fundamental human rights as guaranteed by the Malawi Constitution and other international instruments.

The Commission has since asked the Tonse administration to maintain its current position that vaccination is voluntary and intensify awareness campaigns to demystify myths on the pandemic vaccines.
