In an appalling case of crime reported from Uttar Pradesh, a 50-year-old woman belonging to the Dalit community died three days after a man slit her throat with an axe, reportedly, after he failed to sexually assault her.
The crime occurred at Bhopur village within the limits of Jahangirabad police station in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. The Dalit woman had gone to her fielding to collect fodder for cattle. Finding her alone, Lalit Chaudhary, a resident of the same village, tried to rape her. She, however, fought back. Chaudhary failed to sexually assault her. He then slashed her throat using an axe, Bulandshahr SSP Santosh Singh said.
The woman was found lying in a pool of blood by her son who arrived at the spot after she failed to reach home. She was dashed to a hospital for treatment. She struggled for her life for three days before succumbing early on Sunday, according to a report published by The Times of India.
The accused is presently lodged in jail. Initially, he was booked for attempt to murder. Now, the charges will be enhanced to murder as the woman has died.
