One of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential aspirants Prophet David Mbewe of Living Word Evangelistic Church (LIWEC) has distanced himself from a poser circulating on social media carrying his face and of the late President Bingu Wa Mutharika.

Mbewe’s remarks comes few days after DPP’s president Peter Mutharika cautioned Kondwani Nankhumwa of using his late brother’s face on his poster.

According to Mutharika, it is a sign of disrespect to use pictures of his late brother in their business asking Nankhumwa to withdraw the poster as to make Bingu soul rest in peace.

In a statement seen by this publication, Mbewe said that he respects the decision by the former president not to use Bingu’s face on their posters.

“Prophet Dr David Mbewe wishes the public to note that he respects decisions made by Professor Peter Mutharika as the party’s president. President Mutharika directed that all party presidential aspirants should not use the face of the late Bingu on their posters,” read part of the statement.

The statement continued; “The prophet is therefore distancing himself from the poster that went viral on 4th January 2022 on social media bearing his face and that of the late Ngwazi Bingu wa Mutharika.”

He then stressed that the poster making rounds on social media was not authored by his media team, as he also asked his followers to respect Mutharika’s decision as he is still the president of the party.
