President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera Tuesday encouraged member states of Southern African Development Community (SADC) to be united as it was the pathway to achieving development.

He made the remarks during a banquet at Kamuzu Palace which he hosted for delegates on the first day of the Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government that taking place from January 11-12,2022.

Chakwera pointed out that as a region, members must value the African Philosophy of Ubuntu which basically advocates for togetherness.

“SADC is an important community and this meeting is affirming that it is possible as Africans to come together to solve our problems amicably because it helps in developing our region,” he said.

Essentially, the meeting aims at reviewing progress of the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) which was deployed to support Mozambique to combat terrorism and acts of violent extremism.

President Chakwera, in his capacity as the Chairperson of SADC, will chair the Extraordinary Summit.
