The outspoken social media commentator Joshua Chisa Mbele has given advice to would be offenders to try their best and out of trouble which can lead them into getting arrested and being dumped into the country’s correction facilities.
Mneneri Yoswa as well commonly known, gave the advice after spending nights in police custody for allegedly publishing fake document on social media.
Writing on his Facebook page, Chisa Mbele stressed that it is better to be dead than alive and be in Malawi police cell.
“A Police Cell in Malawi is far worse than a Grave. Better dead than alive. Unfortunately, you won’t have the benefit of seeing life behind bars until you in. It is Tough There,” said Chisa Mbele.
He added that suspects in police cells sleep on a cold slab with nothing to cover their bodies with and that there is no food.
“A bucket in the corner for everyone to urinate and defecate. The smell in the Cell is just something else,” he said.
Chisa Mbele added; “You don’t wish your child to go there. Most importantly, don’t send an innocent person behind bars. It’s just cruel.”
He therefore advised that it is better off to be free other than to live a faster life and end up in jail.
“Be content with the little you earn. Don’t become clever. Kumaloku kulibe udolo. Kulibe ukatswiri. You simply become a thing that has No feelings. No emotions. That feels no pain. You become a rag,” he said.
Prisons in the country are not rehabilitation centers but they are there to punish one’s body and soul, people come out broken, according to Chisa Mbele.
“Think Twice the Consequences before you commit a crime,” he said.
