Malawian diplomats in United States of America have obtained a stay order restraining government from implementing its decision announced by government on December 15, 2021 forcing them to depart Washington DC or risk deportation.
According to the representative of the recalled diplomats Edward Sawerengera filed for the restraint order until a judicial review is done on the decision.
In his remarks, lawyer representing the concerned diplomats Gilbert Khonyongwa said that the diplomats are very much willing to return home, but they are against a decision to be recalled and leave behind their properties.
Last year, the Malawi government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave recalled diplomats at the Malawi Embassy in Washington DC up to December 31 2021 to return home or risk having their diplomatic passports and status revoked.
