The Blantyre City Council (BCC) has re-elected councillor Wild Ndipo as Mayor and councillor Funny Balaba Kanojerera as his deputy during today’s Mayor elections that took place at BCC offices.
This is the third term for Ndipo despite having served two consecutive terms.
Five contesters were battling for mayor post while other five scrambled for deputy mayor sit.
Earlier, tension erupted at Blantyre BCC elections after its Chief Executive Officer Alfred Chanza announced that he received a court injunction through WhatsApp restraining the council from conducting the elections for the mayor and deputy mayor.
After hours, the Council agreed to proceed with mayor elections as it emerged that there was no any injunction obtained to stop the elections.
