Malawi Parliament has said Speaker of the National Assembly Gotani Hara does not own a Facebook page or account.
This is in reaction to a Facebook page bearing the name of the Speaker and is commenting on issues happening in the country.
For instance, the Catherine Gotani Hara Facebook page joined online protest by Malawians social media demanding an apology for calling the country poor after President Lazarus Chakwera pledged to give K 1 million kwacha to Flames Players if they proceed to round of 16 at Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The page also joined the #IStandWithMarthaChizuma campaign.
“On 20th July, 2020, Parliament of Malawi informed the public that the Speaker of the National Assembly, Right Honorable Catherine Gotani Hara, MP, does not have a Facebook account or page,” read part of the statement.
The statement continued; “Parliament of Malawi would like to remind the public that the Speaker has not endorsed any Facebook page or account bearing her name.”
The statement then continued by asking the general public to unfollow the page bearing the name of the speaker and report it to Facebook for its removal.
