Kasungu first grade magistrate court has sentenced Chikondi Wilson to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling an 11- year old niece.

The court heard through state prosecutor assistant superintendent Gladys Jentala that on 11 this month the victim was going to Kawamba trading center with her two brothers ,and on their way they met with Wilson who convinced the victim to return home saying it was dangerous to walk long distances during rainy season as she might be struck by lightning.

On the return, Wilson indecently assaulted victims breathe then grabbed and forced her to the ground where he defiled her. Prosecutor Jentala added that the following day the mother to the victim noticed some strange looks on her and upon being asked on what had happened, the victim revealed that she was defiled by Wilson.

The matter was reported to community policing forum of the area who arrested the suspect and took him to Kasungu police station.

The police issued the victim a referral letter to Kasungu District Hospital where results confirmed that she was defiled.

Appearing before court, Wilson pleaded guilty to the count of defilement and in mitigation he asked for the courts leniency saying that he is taking care of orphans and he is paying fees for his brother who would suffer if sent to prison.

In his submission, prosecutor Jentala pleaded with the court to impose stiffer sentence saying such cases are increasing in the district.

Passing judgement, First Grade magistrate Damiano Banda concurred with the state submission and charged the convict 14 years imprisonment with hard labour.

Wilson hails from Magantha village traditional authority Kawamba in kasungu.
