Malawi’s vice president Saulos Chilima has today joined Malawians in celebrating the historic February 3, a day which democracy in the country was born again.

On a day like this in 2020, the Constitution Court nullified 2019 presidential elections citing massive irregularities which affected results of the presidential elections.

The ruling was later on upheld by the Supreme Court of Appeal on May 8 2020 after the former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) challenged the ruling delivered by the ConCourt.

In a statement seen by this publication, Chilima urged Malawians to be vigilant in “sustaining the renewed gift of a constitutional democracy.”

“Because the challenge, now and for ever, remains in every Malawian staying steadfast in guarding against any developments that have the potential to retrogress the nation into grips political dire straits,” he said.
