Executive member of the former ruling Democratic Progressive Party Ken Msonda has said the move to obtain injunction against recent appointments made by the party’s president Peter Mutharika is to save the party from destruction.

Msonda said this at a press briefing in Lilongwe along with his colleague Joe Nyirongo on the disagreements going on in the party.

According to Msonda, there is a need for the party members to unite as he said what he is happening in the party is not healthy.

Msonda alleges that there are people who are planning on selling the party, hence a need to stop the divisions happening in the party.

He has also called on the party leadership to make decisions that are in line with the party constitution.

“Ngati sitisamala chipanichi chitha ngati makatani” said Msonda.

Msonda adds that the appointments that have been made this far are all illegal as the National governing council has not met.

He says the firing of Nicholas Dausi as party’s publicity secretary was also unconstitutional.

He says, the appointment of Shadreck Namalomba as party Spokesperson is illegal.

“We are wondering where this position came from because it doesn’t exist in our constitution” said Msonda.

Msonda has since given the DPP leadership 14 days to call for a National Governing Council (NGC) meeting.
