As pressure continues to mount on government over President Lazarus Chakwera’s claim that his government has managed to create 997, 000 jobs in two years, Malawi Congress of Trade Union (MCTU) has moved to seek clarification.

The union has said that it is planning to have an audience with the Minister of Labor to get clarification on the criteria used to come up with a figure of 997, 000 jobs to have been created by Tonse administration.

According to Charles Kumchenga MCTU president, claims by the Malawi leader on job creation is a slap in the face to Malawians.

Following the claim by President Chakwera, on Monday this week Minister of Labor, Vera Kantukule, justified the claim and gave a breakdown of jobs created in various sectors, defining a job as any income generating activity that include piece works created during projects and programs in both public and private sectors.
