Former President Dr. Joyce Banda has promised to keep in-touch with a young girl identified as Oyanda Nyama Banda, whose photo mimicking her way of dressing went viral on social media last week.

Oyanda is a student at The Good Shephered International School in Lilongwe.

Banda made the promise on Saturday when she hosted the girl together with her parents, school director Ms Sani and her teachers.

“I learned in this meeting that Oyanda was wearing this PP cloth at a school event. They had students represent the five former presidents of malawi. This is part of the Black History Month commemoration. Oyanda was Malawi’s 4th President JOYCE BANDA. I was amazed to listen to the speech she gave at the event as she recited it to me.

“It is also wonderful to see how Mr & Mrs Nyama Banda are raising this beautiful child. It was delightful to see how confident she is as she talked about what she wants to do in the future. It is my hope that the parents can allow me to continue to be in the life of their brilliant child. I love interacting with girls of this age group. I really enjoyed spending the afternoon with Oyanda and I could see she enjoyed my company too,” wrote Banda.

Joyce Banda, founder of People’s Party (PP) once served as President of Malawi following the death of former President Bingu wa Mutharika.
