Barely few days after State House Chief of Staff Chris Kapondamgaga warned state House employees against using President Lazarus Chakwera’s name to their own benefits, president’s chief advisor on rural transformation and development Adamson Mkandawire has been caught up in a similar mess.
This is according to claims made by businessman Abdul Karim Batatawala that Mkandawire lobbied K378 million loan from him using the president’s name and other top government officials.
According to Batatawala, Mkandawire told him that he was to pay for a cargo consignment from Kenya of which Chakwera was aware of.
Batatawala claims he is only a victim of probable dubious claim.
The businessman through his lawyer Richard Kuleza Phokoso has taken the matter before the High Court Commercial Division in Blantyre.
According to Kuleza Phokoso, his client is attempting to coup the money with interest.
However, Mkandawire has refused to comment on the matter saying he cannot comment on issues that are in court.
He has since questioned Batatawala timing wonders why the businessman is coming out now when the money was loaned to him some two years ago.
