The body of a Saint Maria Goretti learner who was swept by surging rainwater at Kachere township has been laid to rest in the township.

Locals say the three learners last Thursday were playing in the road drainage on their way from school till they mate their fate.

One of the learners was rescued alive, while the second one was found dead some four kilometers away from Kachere along the Lunzu river.

Following the development, residents intensified the search for the last learner and her body was found on Sunday in Lunzu River near Chilaweni in Blantyre.
