Police in Mangochi is keeping in custody four Malawians and a Pakistani for being found in possession of a live pangolin.
The four Malawians have been identified as lnnocent Chiuja, 35, Malinga Kaunda, 34, Jailosi Khozomba, 27, and Ishmael Japan, 26.
While the Pakistani is 41-year-old Allie Mahommed.
According to Mangochi Police publicist Amina Tepani Daudi, the suspects were arrested yesterday afternoon at Mahommed’s house within Mangochi Township.
On this material day, Mangochi Police detectives were tipped by members of the community that the said suspects were possessing the listed species (Pangolin) and looking for buyers.
Tepani Daudi further explains that the officers rushed to the house where the suspects were found in the bedroom negotiating a selling price. The officers also found the Pangolin which was hidden in a bag.
The suspects claimed to have acquired the live species from Nayuchi in Machinga District.
All suspects will appear before the court after the completion of paperwork.
