SOUTH AFRICA – On Friday 11 March, Kgomotso High School in Pampierstad, Northern Cape, dedicated a whole day to the challenge, encouraging pupils to come to school carrying their books in anything but a school bag.

The day was a blast for pupils, who used everything they could think of, including wheelbarrows, baskets and cooler boxes.

One pupil shocked many when he rocked up at school carrying his things in a baby coffin. The light brown coffin with gold decorations and handles caught everyone’s attention and classmates all wanted a photo of him with his coffin.

While many pupils said he was clearly the winner and deserved a trophy, others were shocked.

Ahead of the challenge, the school wrote on its Facebook page: “Dear parents, guardians and caregivers. Please note that our pupils will be participating in the #NoSchoolBagChallenge tomorrow. Pupils are allowed to bring their books in anything except their normal school bag.
