President Lazarus Chakwera on Monday held a secret meeting with Catholic Bishops at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre.

The development comes barely weeks after Catholic Bishops under the banner of Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) issued a pastoral letter attacking the Tonse Alliance leadership flop.

State House Press Officer Anthony Kasunda confirmed of the meeting but could not disclose details of the meeting.

ECM Secretary General Father Henry Saindi also confirmed of the meeting.

“I can only confirm that the bishops met the President, but the contents are private and confidential,” he said.

The meeting started around 9am and finished just after 11am. It was attended by six bishops out of the seven currently available.
