Some civil rights activists and concerned citizens are demanding for resignation or firing of Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda and Police Inspector General Dr George Kainja.

They include Social Revolution Movement, Mzuzu Youth Caucus, Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) and two concerned citizens.

Their demand follows the arrest of Investigate Journalist Gregory Gondwe, saying the matter is a tip of an iceberg on government cover-up on Zuneth Sattar’s corruption investigations.

They accuse government of spending sleepless nights plotting to frustrate and eventually fire Anti-Corruption Bureau boss, Martha Chizuma.

The rights activists and concerned citizens are threatening to hold vigils at Capitol Hill should the two continue working in their portfolios.

Kainja and Nyirenda are yet to comment on the matter but recently the Public Appointments Committee of Parliament concluded the police chief was not incompetent while suggesting resourcing the Malawi Police Service.
