Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has appointed Flames Technical Director, Mario Marinica, as the team’s head coach removing him from his initial role as technical director.

FAM executive committee quarterly meeting held on April 10 in Salima, resolved that Benjamin Kumwenda and who was FAM’s football development officer will now take over the role of technical director.

According to FAM, Marinica will now cease to be the Technical Director and will be offered a new contract for his new role.

The meeting also resolved that three Flames technical panel members which include head coach Meke Mwase and his two assistants, Lovemore Fazili and Bob Mpinganjira should be fired.

Mwase led the Flames to qualify for the delayed 2021 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon and bowed out in the round of 16.

Mwase was dismissed after a 1st Quarterly Meeting by FAM which was held on 9th April, 2022 at Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi.

Mwase became the third local coach to qualify the team to Afcon finals after Henry Moyo in 1987 and Kinnah Phiri in 2010.

MBC will give you more on the development as details emerge.
