Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has distanced itself from rumours hovering on the social media that some party members have been expelled from police training schools.
The development comes barely hours after reports emerged that over 70 youths have been expelled from Kanjedza police training school and Mtakataka Training School for not following protocols to join the country’s police service.
Deputy National Police spokesperson Harry Namwaza has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.
“They were sent back from Mtakataka Police Training School not because their names were missing but they were not on the list of those that were supposed to report for training.”
Inside sources indicates that some of the expelled newly recruited officers are members MCP youth league.
Emily Banda, told the press that this is actually the second time to for her to be turned back, the first being in January, and she was told by party officials to wait and join the March cohort.
But speaking in an interview with the press MCP spokesperson Maurice Munthali said that the party is not aware of such developments.
Munthali said the party does not have a hand on who should be recruited into the police system.
