Former First Lady Callista Mutharika on Sunday took Favoured Martha’s launch of her album to woo support for Peter Mutharika.

Callista received cheers from the audience as she took to the podium during the occasion.

“I am happy to be here to patronise this launch and I would like to thank Favoured Martha for inviting me as the guest of honour. I have enjoyed and I have never seen such fun.

“APM [Arthur Peter Mutharika] says his greetings and would have been here but he is saying he is with you. He knows all the problems that this country is facing and the problems you are facing and all that will be a thing of the past when he gets into power,” said the former First Lady amidst cheers.

She said the support she received during the concert showed that there is hope for Malawi although a survey recently revealed that poverty will only end in the country after 74 years.

“There is hope for this country through your faces and even if others said poverty will end after 74 years, that is not true and God is with us,” she said.

Callista added that she loves the youth so does Peter. That is why he has lined up several programmes for the youth once he steps into power next year.

“I love the youth and APM loves the youth and so we need to support him because there are several programmes he has put up especially in education,” she said.

Before she dangled the K1 million, she played around with the audience as she asked them the amount she should pay in buying the CD and DVD and she got the cheers after hitting the K1 million amount.

Earlier before she made her speech she took the audience to a singing session starting a popular chorus ‘Fanana Naye Yesu,’ in which she sang and danced saying as “Christians we need to show in our acts that we are Christians.”

Callista also said the support she received at the concert gave her hope that Malawians value her despite being forsaken by others.

She also called upon the audience to support musicians by buying their original CDs and DVDs saying most of them make their bread and butter from the trade.
