One of the country’s leading insurance companies in the country, Old Mutual Malawi has rescued flood victims in Chakwawa District who were rendered homeless by Cyclone earlier this year.

The company through its Blantyre Foundation Trust donated Blankets to flood victims being hosted at Kanseche evacuation camp in area of Traditional Authority Lundu.

Speaking after the donation Old Mutual Blantyre Foundation Trustee Rex Kadzongwe said felt duty bound to reach out to the survivors who are still in camps.

“Old Mutual is an organization that believes in living in harmony with the community and being aware of the devastating effects of Tropical Cyclone ‘Ana’ and Tropical Cyclone ‘Gombe’ we thought it wise that we must come and support people here,” said Kadzongwe.

He also disclosed that the company spent MK1.4 million on the donated Blankets.

On his part, Chikwawa District Council Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Humphrey Magalasi described the donation as timely.

“As a District we are happy. The donation is timely as you are aware this is May, we are approaching winter so the Blankets will really assist since we are targeting the elderly, pregnant women and Children,” said Magalasi.

He also appealed to other well-wishers to come in and assist.

So far only 40 camps are remaining out of 71 camps which the district formed this year after the floods.
