Police in Nigeria are investigating the beheading of a local MP in the state of Anambra, just a week after gunmen kidnapped him and an assistant.

Okechukwu Okoye’s disfigured body was discovered over the weekend, causing outrage.

Anambra state governor, Charles Soludo, described the incident as “nefarious, savage, and horrifying.”

He offered a reward for information leading to the killers’ capture.

The attacker’s identity is unknown.

Officials have blamed the region’s increased violence on a banned separatist group.

The separatist movement Indigenous People of Biafra has denied any involvement in the recent attacks.

The group’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is facing terrorist and treason charges, which he denies.
