Minister of Transport Jacob Hara has confirmed the demolition of Chileka Airport in order to construct a new one.

The minister said the demolition of the Airport will start in the month of July 2022.

“The Airport has been there for ages and because of this there is no need of maintenance but the best way is to demolish it and construct a modern Airport and the work will be funded by the Japanese people,” he said.

Hara said Japanese government has promised to fund the project with resources and modern materials amounting to 2 billion kwacha.

The construction work is expected to end in the year 2025.
