President Lazarus Chakwera has cautioned principal secretaries (PSs) in the country that he will not entertain any attitudes or behaviours from the civil service that are designed to make government fail.

Chakwera made the remarks today during an interface meeting with the PSs at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.

The President observed that the civil service has been out of control for far too long and urged the senior management team to help fix the broken systems.

He said: “You are the ones who control the civil service, and the fact that the civil service is broken and in urgent need of fixing means that the task of fixing it rests on you. My task is to give you direction on what you must focus on and to engage in continuous evaluation of whether you have what it takes to fix a government system as broken as ours is.”

Social Commentator Joshua Chisa Mbele has since hailed President Chakwera for having an interface with PSs.

“President Chakwera listens when we raise issues. I raised this topic last year. I asked : When last did you meet the PSs? There was a context and reasons. I observed that some were sabotaging his administration.

“Zikomo Mr President. I’m now his best friend. I see Ministerial Position coming.

“President Wodziwa mabvuto a anthu. Okonda Dziko. Wodzichepetsa,” said Chisa Mbele.
