Police in Chiradzulu district have arrested Cosmas wa Thandeka Hastings Mphepo for allegedly being found in possession of fake currency.

Innocent Moses, Public Relations Officer (PRO) Chiradzulu Police station said Mphepo was arrested during the night of June 18, 2022 at Thomas Trading Center in the district.

Moses explained that Mphepo went for a drinking spree at M & M Bottle Store. While there, he requested for beer and paid a K5,000.00 bank note but the bar attendant became suspicious after noting that the note did not have some original features.

The matter was reported to police whereby officers rushed to the scene and arrested the suspect.

Investigations are underway to verify the note with the Reserve Bank of Malawi.

The suspect will appear in court soon after investigations are done.

Mphepo, 27, hails from Kazombe Village in Traditional Authority Likoswe in Chiradzulu District.
