The Magistrates and Judges Association of Malawi (MAJAM) has strongly condemned calls made by some individuals telling Malawians to attack judicial officers by torching their homes, vehicles and court buildings.

In a statement jointly signed by the organisation’s president Howard Pemba and Secretary General Peter Kandulu, they have called such attacks as unacceptable, and ones which also infringe and undermine the independence and impartiality of the judiciary.

The statement notes that, the recent attack was made by a man allegedly identifying himself as Ben Longwe, and days after a similar one following the now popular judgement of a 19 year old boy from Blantyre, sentenced to spend 8 years in prison for being found in possession of Cannabis Sativa.

MAJAM advises that, people need to follow proper channels to seek redress if aggrieved by any courts’ determination or if they want to lodge a complaint.
