The Evangelical Church of Malawi (ECoM) Ntambanyama Synod has new office bearers following a court sanctioned election which saw Reverend Dr. Michael John Phiri being elected as Chairperson.

The court dissolved the Synod Executive following the protest by church congregants led by Reverend Ernest Nakari.

The church members claimed that the election of the dissolved committee was illegal.

Speaking after the election Reverend John Phiri promised to bring unity among Church members in the Synod.

“Am very happy that I have been elected as Chairman of the Synod and my first priority will be to unite church members in the Synod as you are aware that there was infighting in the church which led to some members seeking court intervention on the matter,” said Phiri.

On his part, Reverend Nakari said he was happy that the new committee has been formed after a long court battle.

“We have been crying for this for so long and finally justice has been served,” said Nakali.

During the election, the church also elected Reverend Stanley Makatanje as Deputy while Reverend Joe Semu was elected General Secretary and Allan Kalepa as Vice.

The Synod Treasurer General is now Elder Lester Nyamiithambo and his vice is Mike Jingini.
