Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa has vowed to proceed with his planned mega rally at Nyambadwe ground in Blantyre slated for July 31, 2022.

Nankhumwa’s remarks follow an instruction from DPP’s regional governor for the South Charles Mchacha asking the leader of opposition to seek consent from the party president Peter Mutharika first if he wants to hold a rally in Blantyre.

Speaking in an interview Nankhumwa expressed surprise on the matter.
“I have been a DPP vice president for the south since 2018. I have conducted several rallies across the country and I have never asked for a consent from the party president, why this call now,” questioned Nankhumwa.

Nankhumwa and Mutharika are in bad blood over the leader of opposition post.

The Mutharika camp appointed former Minister of Agriculture Dr. George Chaponda but Nankhumwa challenged the appointment by obtaining an injunction on the matter.

The court reinstated him on the post awaiting interparty hearing.
