Police are hunting for an unknown assailants of two polygamously related widows identified as Elizabeth Juwa, 50 and Witness Phiri, 47 during the night of 23rd – 24th July 2022 at Euthini in Traditional Authority Chindi in Mzimba.
Mzimba Police Spokesperson Peter Botha said the women were attacked whilst sleeping in the same house but Juwa’s four year old child survived with burn wounds and is currently hospitalized at Mzuzu Central Hospital.
“The house in which they were sleeping in caught fire at mid night. When it was checked by neighbors it was discovered that both women were dead and a four year old child survived with burns,” explained Botha.
He added, “a preliminary investigation by hospital officials has revealed that the suspected assailants killed the two and then set their house ablaze with intent to conceal evidence of murder.”
The police spokesperson further explained that there is no known information if the assailants had grudges against the deceased widows.
Elizabeth Juwa hailed from Chikoya Mhango Village while Witness Phiri came from Jonas Gondwe village both in Traditional Authority Mpherembe in Mzimba and lost their husband some few years ago.
