Health authorities in Nkhata Bay District have confirmed registering six cases of leprosy in the month June, 2022.
In an interview on Monday, Nkhata Bay District Health Office Spokesperson, Christopher Singini said health workers are alert monitoring the situation.
“We have, so far, recorded six active cases and all are currently on treatment. At the moment, we are putting up necessary measures to establish the magnitude of the spread of the disease and how it can be contained,” said Singini.
He said treatment for the disease is available and urged community members to exercise caution against contracting the disease urging all patients to adhere to prescription.
The district intends to step-up community sensitization on the disease and encourage people who are suspected to have the disease to go for screening so that all cases are detected and dealt with timely.
So far, Nkhotakota, Salima, Mzimba and Lilongwe are among the districts that have registered cases of leprosy in the country.
