Parliament has passed the Corrupt Practices Act (CPA) Ammendment Bill to amend the CPA so that it ceases to be a requirement for the Anti-Corruption Bureau to seek consent from the Director of Public Prosecution to prosecute cases.

If President Lazarus Chakwera assents to the bill the Anti-Corruption Bureau will have prosecutorial mandate which it currently does not have.

Government Chief Whip, Jacob Hara, said the development augurs well with what Dr Chakwera promised Malawians.

“The President retaliated to fix the broken systems that have derailed the country’s development. The bill seeks to consolidate that piece of the manifesto,” said Hara.
